Dr. Michelle D. Jones-London is a nationally recognized executive leader, neuroscientist, and workforce strategist with over 20 years of experience designing high-impact programs that shape inclusive excellence across the biomedical research ecosystem.

Michelle brings a rare combination of deep scientific expertise, policy influence, and human-centered leadership. As the founding Chief and Associate Director of the Office of Programs to Enhance the Neuroscience Workforce (OPEN) at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), she has led nationally transformative initiatives that support the growth and advancement of thousands of scientists, from undergraduates to faculty leaders. Her programs are known not just for providing funding, but for delivering comprehensive, 360-degree career development grounded in mentoring, community, and equity.

Michelle has advised institutional leaders, federal agencies, and scientific societies on how to design training and inclusion programs that deliver measurable outcomes. She has spearheaded award-winning national programs including the NIH Blueprint and BRAIN Initiative training programs, NIH Common Fund collaborative initiatives, and the Society for Neuroscience’s long-running Neuroscience Scholars Program. Her work has set a new standard in strategic planning, program evaluation, and culture change across research institutions.

A trained neuroscientist and certified executive coach, Michelle’s approach integrates strategy, systems thinking, and coaching to support individuals and organizations as they evolve toward greater impact, change management, and sustainability.

She is the recipient of six distinguished NIH Director’s Awards and two prestigious national honors: the 2024 Louise Hanson Marshall Special Recognition Award from the Society for Neuroscience and the 2024 Dolores Shockley Award from the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
